SEO For Florist Websites: My Floral Passion and SEO Discovery
Hi there, wedding and event florists!
I want to share some insights from my journey of running a floral design company here in Los Angeles, California and being a wedding and event florist. For six years, as well as the flowers, I worked on the backend of my website and revealed another passion… SEO!
This eventually led me to my web design and SEO strategy business.
My Floral Passion and SEO Discovery
I have always been passionate about flowers, crafting beautiful, seasonal designs inspired by my English countryside roots, and connecting with my ideal wedding clients. But beyond the blooms, I found myself equally passionate about the backend of my business.
As a small business owner, I wore all the hats. I soaked up business podcasts, learning how to market my floral services more effectively and how to optimize my website for SEO. When I discovered SEO, something clicked - I was hooked.
Implementing these basic SEO strategies led to:
Increased traffic to my website
Bookings from my ideal wedding and event clients
A rise in local flower delivery orders

If you’re just starting out with SEO for your florist website, here’s what I did in those early days:
Google Business Profile
This free and powerful tool from Google runs through Google Maps. If your flower business serves a local area, your Google Business Profile (GBP) literally puts you on the map. You don't need a visible physical address or phone number to benefit from this tool. Here’s how to optimize your profile:
Keywords: Use well-researched keywords in your business description (Google Keyword Planner is great for this).
Reviews: Gather reviews from past and new clients. Share the Google review link from your Google Business Profile to make it easy for clients to leave reviews. Make sure to reply to these reviews.
Updates: Post updates about new bouquets, events, or pop-ups. This keeps your profile active and engaging.
Links: Include links to your website and any relevant blog posts.
Reviews not only build trust with potential clients but also signal to Google that you are a reputable business, boosting your ranking.
Headings and Hierarchy
Your website’s homepage needs a clear H1 heading. This tells search engines who you are, what you do, and where you’re located. Use H2 and H3 headings for additional structure. Remember, one H1 heading per page!
Meta Descriptions
Each page on your website should have an easy-to-read and informative meta description. Include researched keywords without overstuffing. These descriptions appear in search results, so make them optimized and enticing to draw potential customers to your site.
Blogs
Search engines love fresh, high-quality content. Consistent blogging helps your SEO. Here’s what to keep in mind:
Topics: Write about topics your potential customers are searching for.
Keywords: Use well-researched keywords, but avoid overstuffing.
Headings: Use proper heading hierarchy (one H1, followed by H2 and H3 headings).
Links: Link back to your website and include external links.
Images: Use images with Alt Text to improve accessibility and SEO.
Monitor Your Progress
Set up Google Analytics and Google Search Console to track your website’s performance. These tools show you what people are searching for when they find your site, how your keywords are ranking, and where your users are located. Use this data to refine your SEO strategy.
If you want to dive deeper there’s great information on platforms such as Ubbersuggest and SemRush.
Wishing you lots of SEO success,
