Does My Business Need A Blog?

YES. If you want to drive more organic searches and potential customers to your website (and I’m guessing you do) you definitely do need a Blog.

If you haven’t started, don’t worry: today is the day or this week is the week. Once you get started writing and posting consistently you’ll begin to drive more traffic (and the right traffic) to your website. Blogging has become a game-changer for businesses. With its ability to connect with audiences, blogging has proven to be a powerful tool for driving traffic, boosting brand visibility, and ultimately growing a business.

If you have “start a blog” on your to-do list it might be time to get started sooner rather than later.

Increased online visibility and brand awareness

One of the benefits of blogging is the increased online visibility and brand awareness and connection to your customers.

When you consistently create high-quality, valuable content that is relevant to your target audience, search engines take notice. Incorporate relevant keywords - check out Google Keyword Planner: it’s a great free tool that will help you figure out keywords worth exploring for your business.

When you optimize your blog posts, you can improve your search engine rankings, making it easier for potential customers to find you.

When creating blog content remember this content can be adapted and used effectively across different platforms eg you might include blog extracts on your social media or in your newsletter.

Establishing credibility

Through regular blogging you establish credibility and thought leadership in your field. When you consistently produce high-quality, insightful content, you position yourself as an expert and a go-to resource in your field.

By sharing your knowledge, experiences, and unique perspectives through blog posts, you demonstrate your expertise to potential customers. This can help you differentiate yourself from competitors and build trust with your audience. When people see you as a thought leader, they are more likely to turn to you for advice, solutions, and ultimately, for their business needs.

Generating organic traffic and leads

By optimizing your blog posts for relevant keywords, titles and imagery you can increase your chances of appearing in search engine results pages. This means that when potential customers search for a specific topic or question, your blog post has a higher likelihood of being displayed.

This targeted traffic is more likely to convert into leads and customers, as they have already shown interest in the information you provide.

Blogging allows you to incorporate call-to-actions (CTAs) within your posts, guiding visitors to take the next step in their customer journey. Whether it's signing up for a newsletter, downloading a free resource, or making a purchase, CTAs can help you capture leads and nurture them into paying customers.

Building and nurturing customer relationships

In today's customer-centric landscape, building and nurturing relationships with your customers is crucial. Blogging provides an effective platform to engage with your audience, address their pain points, and provide solutions to their challenges.

Communication: blogging allows for two-way communication. By enabling comments on your blog posts, you can engage in conversations with your readers, answer their queries, and gain valuable insights into their preferences and challenges.

This feedback loop not only helps you better understand your audience but also allows you to tailor your products or services to their needs.

Getting Started Writing Your Blogs

Settle In With A Cup Of Tea

Personally I set aside a couple of hours every few weeks to sit and focus on my blogs. I make a cup of tea, turn on “do not disturb” and settle in. I also have a running document within my Google Drive where I store ideas and thoughts along the way.

  • Define my goals: Before I start writing my blogs, I define my goals. What do I want to achieve with this blog? Is it to increase brand awareness, generate leads, establish thought leadership, or a combination of these? Understanding my objectives helps me create a focused and effective blogging strategy. Remember search engines when crawling your website love to see content relevant to your business so having a plan in place for creating content is beneficial.

  • Plan my content strategy: A well-defined content strategy ensures consistency and relevance within blog posts. I brainstorm ideas, create an editorial calendar, and identify the types of content I will produce (e.g., how-to guides, industry insights, case studies, fun stuff).

  • If you're searching for blog ideas, Google can be a valuable tool. Simply type a question related to your business or what you offer, and Google will provide you with a range of inquiries. For example, if you run a pilates studio, you might ask, "What's An Easy Pilates Move For A Beginner?" Google will not only suggest answers but also reveal similar questions people are asking. This wealth of information can inspire you to write engaging and informative blog posts centered around popular queries in your field.

  • Create and optimize my content: When creating blog posts, I focus on producing high-quality, informative, and engaging content. I aim to incorporate relevant keywords naturally within my posts to improve search engine visibility. I try and be mindful of the use of headings, subheadings, and bullet points to enhance readability. I’ll always include visuals such as images to make the content visually appealing and make sure to link within my blog back to my website and to external sources too.

How Often Should I Post A Blog To My Website?

If you haven't begun writing your blogs yet, now is the perfect time to start. Try to post as frequently as possible, aiming for at least twice a month. And if you manage to post more often, even better! Consistency when posting is key.
